Speaker 1:

Welcome to another episode of Intimate Tarot. I'm your host, alexandra, and today we are going to talk about the Lovers. The Lovers is card number 6 in a tarot deck and it's the card of disobedience. It sits after the Hierophant the rules we are breaking and the Chariot the determination to go through with the decision we are making. In the traditional Rider-Waite-Smith tarot we see depicted Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden to symbolize the disobedience of Eve when she chose knowledge over blissful ignorance. This is a Gemini card, it's an air sign. Therefore, it's about logic and collecting information. Eve knew from the conversation with the serpent the consequences of her actions. She was aware that if she would have eaten the prohibit fruit, her eyes would be opened and she would have been, like God, knowing good and evil. Eve ate the apple after collecting this information from the serpent. It was not an impulsive decision. She knew what she had in the Garden of Eden with Adam, but she chose to seek for more. She disobeyed by informed choice.

Speaker 1:

Just like Eve, I chose to disobey the norm, the traditional family I had created in the year of aunt, and asked my husband for divorce and told him I wanted to move back to London with our kids. Listen to my episode, the Chariot. I took this decision after answering three questions. Is my relationship characterized by equality between my partner and I? Can the relationship be expected to survive changes of circumstances? Is the relationship unique, special, magical? It was a no on all three.

Speaker 1:

Let me tell you why the relationship with my husband wasn't characterized by equality. We were living in his country of origin, poland, where he had family, friends and a well-paid full-time job. What I had was him and our children. I was totally dependent on this man. I am Italian. I didn't speak any Polish at all when we moved there, and I've been pregnant or breastfeeding for the totality of my staying in Poland. So I had very little time or energy to go out and make friends, and even the few people I met rarely had a good command of English. So communication were not so easy easy and friendship harder to maintain.

Speaker 1:

During the first years there, my mom had to battle with breast cancer and my sister moved back from the UK to Italy to assist her, and because of that neither of them came to visit me nor my newborn child for quite some time. So while my husband is finding fame and fortune in his new career path in his country. I am there, exiled to a life of solitude. Permission to be dramatic. So no, there was no equality in the relationship.

Speaker 1:

The relationship didn't survive changes. During COVID, my husband took a job as a private chef on a yacht and he spent half the year at sea, while I was left alone in Poland raising our children. When he took that job, we were already in crisis because of the emotional distance. I am a Leo, I'm super affectionate and family oriented, he is a Capricorn, and I said all so adding the physical distance was the nail in the coffin of our marriage. So no, the relationship couldn't survive changes of circumstances. The relationship had no magic. At that point when I was questioning if it was even worth it to stay in the marriage. There was no sex, no love, no communication, no understanding, no respect. So no, the relationship was not unique, nor special, nor magical at all. With this information in hand, I went to my husband and asked for divorce. It was an informed choice.

Speaker 1:

I have two cards in front of me. One is the lovers from the dark mansion tarot and the other is the lovers from the tempest tarot. In the first one, we have a man in between two women and he has to make a choice stay loyal to his lady or fail to obey the rule of fidelity and choose the mistress. In the other one we see a reference to the classical story of the mermaid and the sailor. In here they are kissing passionately underwater and the question is will there be a compromise to stay together or one of them has to renounce a part of themselves for the sake of the relationship? Remember, the lovers is always a card of informed choice, of decision-making based on logic rather than impulse. The Lovers is often about disobedience we fail to obey a rule, a command or someone in authority and the Lovers can be about compromise. It offers you the opportunity to stop and think if there is a way for both parts involved to be equally happy without renounce or lose a part of themselves.

Speaker 1:

So when this card shows up in a reading, ask yourself do I have all the information I need in order to make the right decision? What does the right decision look like? What are my options? Is there a way I can have both? What should I renounce to be in this relationship? And, by the way, the lover lovers talks about any relationship dynamic could be with a friend, a family member, a co-worker or a romantic partner, but the lovers is not only about love. I hope you enjoyed this episode. Please subscribe to the podcast and leave me comments. I'd love to hear your opinion on this card, because I know most people are so happy to see the lovers appearing in a reading, but actually it's not that positive at all if you think it's signalizing decision, though we are questioning the status of the relationship because we want to find clarity and harmony, so I guess it's not that bad. But do ask the questions, gather your info and make the right decision. Thanks for listening. I'll catch you on the next one. Ciao for now.
